Dear Gregorius Nekschot fan,

The freedom of expression is under serious threat in the Netherlands. Religious fundamentalists and 'correct' dogmatists are trying to curb the freedom of expression.

The freedom of expression is the foundation of our democracy. Limiting the freedom of expression is a prelude to dictatorship.

The arrest of cartoonist Gregorius Nekschot led to the creation of the Porcupine ('Stekelvarken') Foundation. The Porcupine Foundation endeavours to ensure the freedom of expression for everyone, but in particular it supports Gregorius Nekschot to allow him to continue his work as a cartoonist in a professional manner. 

The Porcupine Foundation expresses its gratefulness for the donations it has received.
